Tree service marketing

Marketing for tree services and arborists.

Tree work splits into two completely different businesses that happen to share a truck. One is the storm call at 6am with a limb through a roof. The other is the homeowner who has been meaning to deal with that dying oak for two years. They search differently, decide differently, and are worth very different money.

The short answer

What does a tree service marketing agency do?

A tree service marketing agency helps arborists and tree companies capture two streams of work: emergency removals after storms, which are searched on a phone and won by whoever answers, and planned trimming, removal and stump grinding, which is priced and compared. Because the map pack sits above the organic results on almost every local tree query, the work centres on Google Business Profile visibility, reviews, service and city pages, and paid advertising during storm season.

Tristar Marketing Solutions is a marketing agency for tree services and arborists. We build Google Business Profile and map pack visibility, review generation, service and city pages, and we run the Google and Meta advertising alongside them.

The economics

What the work is worth, and what a lead should cost.

ItemTypical range
Tree removal$400 to $1,700
Stump grinding$130 to $440
Large or hazardous removal$900 to $7,000
Local Services Ads lead$20 to $85
Shared platform lead$15 to $150
Blended cost per lead$58 to $90
Close rate on exclusive leads40 to 60%

Those numbers are healthier than most trades. A $70 lead closing at 50 percent against a $900 removal is a strong business. The catch is that shared leads from platforms close far below exclusive ones, because you are racing three other crews to the same phone.

The part most crews lose money on

Nobody leaves a voicemail about a tree on their house.

There is a reason “answering service for tree service” is a search people actually make. Crews are in bucket trucks and running saws all day, which is exactly when the phone rings.

52%

Of inbound calls to home services businesses are answered by a person, and 55% of businesses never ask for the booking on the call. Compounded, roughly 8.9% of inbound calls become a job on that call.

For emergency tree work the effect is brutal, because the homeowner calls the next crew immediately. Before spending anything on marketing, work out what happens to a call at 7am during storm season. If it goes to voicemail, better rankings will simply generate more missed opportunities.

Two businesses

Emergency and planned work need different marketing.

Storm and emergency

  • Searches on a phone, immediately, often at dawn
  • Calls whoever answers first
  • Map pack placement decides it
  • Spikes hard after weather, then vanishes
  • Insurance frequently involved

Planned removal and care

  • Considered for months, sometimes years
  • Gets two or three quotes
  • Credentials, insurance and reviews decide it
  • Steady, plannable, better margins
  • Content and rankings decide it

Most tree service websites are built entirely for the second and win the first by accident, or the reverse. Building for both deliberately is the opportunity, and the planned side is where the schedule stability lives.

The biggest untapped lever

Certification and insurance are your differentiator. Say so.

Homeowners are genuinely frightened of tree work, and correctly so. They are inviting somebody to drop several thousand pounds of wood next to their house, and they have all heard a story about it going wrong.

Almost every tree service site says “licensed and insured” as three words in a footer. Almost none of them state the coverage amount, name the ISA Certified Arborist on staff, explain what that certification requires, or show a certificate of insurance.

That is a wide-open lane. In a category where the buyer’s dominant emotion is risk, being the crew that is specific about credentials while everyone else is vague is worth more than any clever headline. It also justifies a higher price, which matters when the crew down the road is quoting cash and no paperwork.

How we work

What we would do for a tree service.

Fix the phone and the profile

Make sure calls get answered during working hours and after storms, then get the map pack right: categories, service area, photos of real jobs, and steady reviews.

Make the credentials visible

Certification, insurance coverage, safety practice, stated plainly where an anxious homeowner will see them. Cheapest trust win in the trade.

Build both demand streams

Emergency and storm pages ready before the season, plus planned-work content on removal, trimming, disease and stump grinding for the searches that happen year round.

Same local SEO program, weighted for a trade that swings with the weather. If paid fits, we run Google Ads too.

Questions we get

What tree service owners ask.

Are shared leads from platforms worth buying?

They close far below exclusive leads because you are racing several crews to the same homeowner. Blended cost per lead lands around $58 to $90, and exclusive leads close at 40 to 60 percent while shared ones sit well under that.

They are a reasonable bridge while you build your own visibility. They are a poor permanent plan, and the price only goes up.

How do I get in the map pack for tree removal?

Categories set correctly, service area matching where you actually work, real photos of jobs, and a steady flow of recent reviews. Those four cover most of it.

It is rarely one big fix. It is usually several small things that were never set up properly, which is good news because they are all fixable.

Storm season is chaos. How do I prepare?

Have the emergency and storm damage pages built and indexed before the weather, not published after it. Google will not rank a page fast enough to catch the surge it was written for.

Then make sure the phone gets answered. During a storm event, answering is worth more than ranking.

Should I say how much insurance I carry?

Yes. Almost nobody does, and it is the single question anxious homeowners most want answered before letting a crew near their roof. Specific coverage beats “fully insured” in a footer by a wide margin, and it supports a higher price.

What does it cost?

All our pricing is published, including what is included at each level. Look without talking to anybody.
